Episode 31 of the podcast and officially episode 3 of the Let’s get this bread dropped. We ended up naming all the episodes Mike Rich and I do together the “Let’s Get This Bread” episodes after inspiration from Tim Ferriss when he started podcasting wayyyy back in the day with Kevin Rose.
For all my people obsessed with podcasts, “KevKev Tim Tim Show” will sound familiar. Inspiration + that consistent bread emoji text every Friday created this.
In episode 31 we recapped our experience of the Discovery XP 2023 Men’s Retreat hosted by DMB coaching (Dr. Michael Brown). It was an amazing experience and highly recommend you check out this episode. AND check out DMB’s Three Word Podcast! So freaking good 15 to 30-minute episodes challenging us to think differently and to become the best version of ourselves.
Who wouldn’t want that?
Typically for the podcast recap I dish out 3 appetizers before the full episode entree, but Mike Rich had too many hitters for me to only give you 3. Here are two extra on the house…
5 Things I Can’t Stop Thinking About From Episode 31 feat. Mike Rich.
1. Creating Ghost Business Newsletter.
I am so gassed up about this! Mike Rich is obsessed with everything business/entrepreneurial and it is amazing to see him create this newsletter to put out in the world. It delivers value to others while at the same time aligning with something that he truly loves. I believe this is a decade project. Don’t forget to subscribe.
2. Optimism
One of the attendees shared a story when we were discussing pivoting. Especially when it comes to identity, evolving, and making life-changing decisions. He said optimistic people quit more often than non-optimistic people. They stop things and start other new things because they want to evolve and grow. Power in realizing that is possibility and not a bad thing.
Well shit now I am fired up… previously I have described myself as optimistic not positive. At times I feel like positivity is just for a moment after you watch an Instagram reel or read a quote. I have had people mistake my optimism for blind positivity. BIG DIFFERENCE. Being optimistic and deeply believing there is good on the way is a competitive advantage.
3. Parenting & Good ole days being right now.
Last time Mike Rich was on the pod in August of 2022 we were weeks away from his daughter being born. At the front half of the pod, Mike shared a lesson and awareness moment through the first few months of parenting. A+ on how thoughtful he was with this lesson.
Instead of being in the frame of mind of I can’t wait until she can crawl, walk, talk, and I can teach her X. He shared the importance of not wishing time away because in the future you will want to come back to right now. Being present. Thought that one was really impactful not only for new parents but everyone in all aspects of life.
Think we can all relate to the I can’t wait until I make 100k, get this title, do this experience, buy this house, etc
Can’t be playing the i’ll be happy when game and wish time away.
4. The only things truly within our control.
Who we are becoming?
The choices we make.
5. Mike Rich’s Challenge.
Total up how much you spend a month and then figure out % of that is spent investing in you! Could be online courses, books, coaching sessions, or even registering for DiscoveryXP Men’s Retreat 2024 next May.
We discussed in the pod how at times we observe people saying wow that course, experience, or opportunity to invest in yourself is expensive. Then when you look back people spend $100 to $200 a night on dinner or hitting the bars. Per week… so times that by 4 and that’s the % of investing in some great social time, drinking, and food. No knock on that but it makes you think & reflect. Damn, I spend X amount on drinking imagine if I invested that into leadership, life, or executive coaching? Could even be a personal trainer that coaches you in the weight room to improve your health!
It reminded me when people ask how much I pay for jiu-jitsu each month. I hear wow that’s a lot! It’s about $150 a month. The ROI on that can’t be measured because it is so massive!
Dickie Bush and Dan Koe explained a version of this from Alex Hormozi called the ignorance tax. The price you pay to realize and learn things that in some way you kinda already know. I CONNECTED WITH THIS SO MUCH. The money you invest in some ways is for new game-changing information that you haven’t heard before but also there is that bit of information where in the back of your mind you are like “yeah yeah yeah… shit… I know this. Good reminder just gotta take some action on this now.”
Reply & let me know what you think about Mike Rich’s challenge. Appreciate you taking the time to read this and your support.
