What’s up! Welcome back to another week of Ferate’s 5. This past week was my podcast’s 1st anniversary which is nuts. So after some birthday shenanigans celebrating being 30 episodes deep, I wanted to share five podcasts that I can’t stop talking about.
David Senra. Founders Podcast.
David Senra has this freaking quote that is GOLD, “Podcasting is the printing press for the spoken word.” That quote has my soul burning, like when the fire starter hits for your BBQ on a perfect summer day! BANG!
Well let’s get right into this lead-off hitter, David Senra, we already started off hot with one of my all-time favorite quotes. Host of the Founders Podcast where he distills lessons and common threads from history's greatest entrepreneurs. David's stock is blowing up, his energy is unmatched and is showcasing his superpower of extracting lessons from reading biographies Recently, David Senra had dinner with Charlie Munger, which is INSANE. He has been making the rounds on several top-notch podcasts which are listed below! Absolute gems!
Lessons from David Senra’s episode on My First Million with Sam Parr.
“Learning is changing your behavior not just reading or listening to the lessons.”
“Big-time successful people may be 20 times richer, but not 20 times smarter.”
Podcast Affinity. A podcast is the host and the listener together in your headphones. Creating affinity and parasocial relationship where you know the host so well by just sheer accumulation of time. You spend more time listening to podcast hosts voice than some of your best friends & family. 1 to 3 hours a week over and over again builds up over time.
“Podcasting is on-demand audio that you can educate yourself any time you want, anywhere in the world.”
Paul Millerd. The Pathless Path
Paul Millerd of the Pathless Path is the next podcast I binge-listened to in April. I have this thing where I listen to every podcast episode anytime they are a guest, Billy Oppenheimer is on that shortlist. Billy jumped on the Pathless Path in mid-April which caught my curiosity.
After listening to Billy, I checked out several more episodes of Derek Sivers 135 Beyond Comfort, Nick Maggiulli 132, David Perell 125 Hearts on Fire, and Paul Millerd as the guest on the Danny Miranda Podcast 115 discussing leaving the default path.
And I ordered his book.
Which is next up after I finish Perennial Seller by Ryan Holiday. I love Paul’s willingness to talk about something that is counter-culture but becoming more and more popular. Are we supposed to just graduate college, have the same job for 35 years, and retire? That’s it? Fired up to dive into his book. Highly recommend his podcast and starting with David Perell’s episode. So freaking good!
Who am I becoming?
What is it that I truly want to want?
What is my 3-year lifestyle design?
What is Ferate’s path?
What do I want to experience, how do I want to grow, and how do I want to contribute?
Colin Walters. Seeds of Success Podcast.
ANNOUNCEMENT! FUTURE PODCAST GUEST! Shout out to Henry Cheney for connecting us. I am so gassed up to connect with Colin Walters on the podcast. He is one of those dudes, when you connect you stop yourself for a second and are like damn man we could be friends. Art of podcasting, investing in our health, storytelling, and both navigating the opportunities/challenges of being in our early 30s are some topics I am excited to get into.
He has his podcast, Seeds of Success, and has consistently cranked out episodes every Transformation Tuesday for years. We had to reschedule our podcast that will be posted on both channels due to illness. But get this… Colin is a legend. Sick, throwing up, couldn’t run, or eat, and STILL ran the Eugene Marathon a few days after. So freaking legit.
Check out his podcast and keep an eye out for the next few weeks when he jumps on The Bryant Ferate Podcast.
Yogi Roth & Ruben Rojas.
Been putting this one out into the universe. “Fingers crossed” future guest on the podcast is the one and only Yogi Roth! Yogi Roth is one of those guys similar to Billy Oppenheimer for me, if they are on a podcast I pull it up and check it out. They both have opened doors to new podcasts just because I want to hear them tell their story. Ruben Rojas was the host and dove straight into love, lessons of how great is ball, storytelling, impact, learning about others, connecting, and parenting. Seriously, this is one of those episodes I put back on the queue to listen back to more deeply. (and take notes.)
Yogi Roth is someone I look up to because of his willingness to carve out his unique path. College football walk-on, coaching at USC with Pete Carroll, writer, author, filmmaker, connector, storyteller, PAC 12 Football announcer, storyteller, seeker, and so much more. Must listen to podcast! The next step is simply taking action.
Zach Pogrob. Follow Obsession.
Zach Pogrob is back on The Danny Miranda podcast to give us an update. He has had an absolute INSANE the past few months since being on the podcast last July. The real magic these past few months is his growing of getting close to a billion engagements from creating short impactful black-and-white visuals. They have become iconic on twitter and Instagram. A good sign is when you create something and everyone copying it blows up!
The lesson that was put into action right away from Zach was the MONTH NOTES. Open up iPhone notes or I used Notion. I dated it from April 14th to April 30th right away. Zach explained to brain dump notes from podcasts, articles, thoughts from walks, tweets that hit, and things that didn’t hit. Now you have a time block of notes and almost a time capsule for what you were either consuming or creating in that block of time. I am world-class at the one long-ass singular note on my iPhone notes. Just never thought about it in this way where I can refer back every 2 weeks. This is the first step of keeping it to a time window and referring back to reflect on how that month went.
I can’t wait for you to check out at least one of these podcasts and let me know what you think. These people impact my life and help me every single day. Listening to their podcasts, reviewing my notes, and challenging myself to do what David Senra said: “Learn by actually changing my behavior”.
