Learn From Those Before Us: Bradford Scott.

Normally when you search for a bio online it brings up a short description of all of your previous experiences. "Nouns" or our titles are described by where we worked, for how long, and with who. More important and typically left out are our "Verbs" or the actions we take that define who we are, our values, how we treat others and what ultimately makes up our identity.

I wanted to use this platform to share the connection between the University of Portland and the 2021 World Series by highlighting Bradford Scott the former Director of Athletic Performance for 8.5 years.

I recently explained to the baseball team, full of 18-22 y/o this connection. As the story built a bridge from college to the big leagues there first question was how did he do that? What was his path? My first reaction was to answer with his experiences or his "Nouns". I caught myself, realizing in the moment deep down what mattered more were the "Verbs" that have left a lasting impact at UP and continue to impact his friends everyday.

The impact across 8.5 years not only consists of coaching +200 student-athletes each year during one of the most impactful times of their lives, but also coaching future coaches. Empowering them to grow, learn, make their own careers and keep the Sports Performance Department at the University of Portland moving forward.
