Ferate's 5: Summer 2024 Energy.

Marathon in Greece, Croatian Summer, Glacier National Park, & A Full Season of Laughs.

Let’s Go! What’s up everyone, it has been a minute!

Just finished watching Washington State University win the Apple Cup over UW and thought I would get to work on writing my monthly newsletter.

After reading Noah Cracknell’s and Tygar Cho’s monthly updates it hit me that I have missed you all these past few months. July and August were full of incredible experiences just not full of writing and podcasting haha. To be honest been feeling some resistance (Steve Pressfield Status) which I will dive more into below.

I am back to share a Summer 2024 recap and the mission moving forward. If you are new here I send a quick monthly update on my mission, what I have been up to, and what is setting my heart on fire.

Let’s dive in.

Miles Ran

  1. July 140.5 miles

  2. August 182.12 miles

Places Traveled

  1. JULY: Elk Lake (Near Bend, Oregon), Glacier National Park in Montana, &. a lot of Pickleball

  2. AUGUST: Amsterdam Airport, Split, Slano, Dubrovnik (Croatia), Athens & Marathon (Greece).

4th of July

I went out to Elk Lake with the squad to camp, paddleboard, and enjoy the Oregon heat wave. Good food, a few runs at elevation, and a ton of laughs! Extremely grateful for this squad.

Glacier National Park & 33rd Birthday Weekend.

Devin Kennedy and I flew out to Kalispell, Montana to visit Chase and Janeen. We camped 2 nights and hiked about 28 miles out in East Glacier. Highly Recommend the entire national park.

We saw a few moose up close and personal and hiked up to Ptarmigan Tunnel. Those were the two biggest highlights for me besides just kicking it with the squad! Glacier is one of the special places in the US. One of the spots where you second guess what you are seeing with your eyes because it is just that damn beautiful.

One of the most surreal things I’ve seen in person right here.

HIking up to Grinnel Glacier with Devin, Chase, & Janeen. July 2024

Portland Pilots Take Over Croatia & Greece.

Insanely grateful and fortunate to go on an international trip with the Portland Pilots Women’s Basketball team. We played 3 games over 10 days. I am an absolute nerd for facts, history, and exploring new cities.

Swimming in the ocean, the seafood, and most of all cracking jokes with Max, Nico, and the whole squad was unmatched. That is one of those things where I stopped several times and said “Damn, I am going to remember this forever.”

Split was one of the coolest cities to explore and going to the soccer game was ELITE.

Ston had some of the best seafood I’ve ever had.

Slano was a small little town right on the ocean. Was perfect because we could have breakfast, drink an espresso, and then take 5 steps to jump into the ocean. Loved running around this area. Dubrovnik was full of history, super over-touristy (WAS PACKED), sick Game of Thrones spots, and the famous basketball court.

Athens, Greece had hella history. The downtown area was cool to walk through and explore. The list goes on and on we hit a ton of the spots. Didn’t get to see the original Greek goddess of victory Nike statue (still on my list).

Original Greek Marathon (Marathon Authentica) 3:52:57

So 5:00 am Tuesday, I took a taxi 50 minutes out to the city of Marathon, and then yup you guessed it ran a marathon back to Athens. Fueled up on some incredible lamb, feta cheese, and Greek beers from the night before.

It’s the original marathon from the first official Olympics back in 1896. The exact route had me finish in the original Olympic stadium. Solo Tuesday Marathon vibes.

UPDATE it was HOT. Hella hot. Too much info but I drank about 9 drinks during the run, sweated out my clothes, you already know the shirt was off, and only stopped to hit the toilet twice. With about a third of the race on city sidewalks, a third in the ditch, and a third casually chillin on the freeway! Kianna, Emme, and Flo surprised me at the end with a water bottle. That not going to lie had me in tears from being gassed and super surprised that they showed up to support me!

That right there was a life WANT. I wanted to do that, I said I would do it and I did it. Goes back to one of my favorite concepts that you have probably heard me talk about 1000 times. “What do you want to want?”

Portland Marathon

Yep, she is next. On A Mission. My Mission is to break the 3-hour mark on October 6th with Georgia and Thomas. We are all three going for the same thing. We have a squad coming out to support so if you want to join by running it or supporting let me know!

Most recently hit hill sprints and another speed workout! 10×1 mile with 60 seconds rest at 6:14 pace was been one of my most impressive workouts recently.

Waves

The creative act vs. living vs. documenting.

This summer has been incredible. Kick-ass fun experiences that are full of growth and smiles. In some ways I have got away from these creative acts of writing and podcasting. In others ways I have just been taking a little break.

Steven Pressfield often talks about resistance. Yes there is some of that too. I was vibing with spending time with friends, new experiences, connecting with new people, on and on and on. They are real. They are important. And I notice this writing thing just feels so goddamn good too (when I actually do it). Summer was dope, September will be dope, and I will continue to make the most of every single day. That is all I can do.

Riding the waves of high moments or high of creating writing/podacsts/workouts etc then the lows of I am still training super hard but got away from YouTube, the newsletter, and doing one podcast episode a week. In decade games a week or month doesn’t matter much. I am committed to doing things for 10 years. So a lot more is coming. It all comes back to energy.

Live.

Be.

Create.

What am I vibing with right now?

Good Work by Paul Millerd

Lost Frequencies - live sets on Soundcloud.

Change The Stories We Tell Ourselves - Farnam Street Podcast was top-notch.

Thank you for tuning in & taking some time out of your day to check out what I have been up to. Let’s stay On A Mission, one daily deposit at a time. Making every day the best day of the year until tomorrow!
