Why Start A Podcast? Connection, Curiosity, & Five Consistent Questions.
Gain clarity in thinking, writing, and speaking.
Why start a podcast? What is your podcast about? Those are two questions that come up often.
Podcasting and writing is a stage for me to connect with others, by diving into deep, vulnerable, & meaningful conversations. While also exploring my curiosity for questions I ask daily.
The goal is to impact people’s lives by sharing what I am interested in, curious about, and currently learning. Sahil Bloom recently said “I don’t want to be a teacher, I’m a student with you. I’m sharing it because I’m wrestling with it in real-time.” That quote from the Behind The Thread podcast resonated with me because my podcast & writing are coming from the place of a “curious student on a journey with you” not a teacher who thinks they have it all figured out.
THE FIVE DAILY QUESTIONS
What Do You Want To Want? What do you truly want in your life? Not the things you want solely because society has influenced you into wanting them. What do you want to want? (Chris Williamson & Kyle Eschenroeder)
Who Am I Becoming?
James Clear first inspired this question with his famous quote from his book Atomic Habits. “Every action you take is a vote for the type of person you wish to become.”
Rich Roll helped evolve this question in his January 2022 interview with Tim Ferriss.
What Am I Doing With My Life?
Part 1 is from Man’s Search For Meaning by Viktor Frankel. He explains that in reality, we are not asking life what is the meaning of life. Life is asking us that question every day and what we choose to do is the answer.
Part 2 is sometimes we feel like we are the only ones experiencing this question. I have had this happen to me many times, especially when my identity and future get involved in the mix. I have observed by taking a step back that this question causes you to feel like you are the only one asking it but in stepping back I have also noticed that so many more people, no matter their age, title, etc., are feeling the same way and asking the same question. We can connect on the fact that at one point or another we all experience this.
If I Truly & Deeply Loved Myself What Would I Do?
Kamal Ravikant’s book Love Yourself Like Your Life Depends On It had a major impact on me. This quote trims the fat and cuts away everything by putting what matters most into focus. I strive to make more decisions from the place of truly & deeply loving myself.
How Do I Define Livin’?
Most of us have heard Matthew McConaughey’s famous line “just keep livin’. At times livin is such a hard word to describe but can be easy to see in others. When you meet someone there are moments where you can feel their energy and it hits you “man they are livin’”. I ask this question because it comes down to what does livin’ mean to me and the drive to connect with more people that are defining it for themselves.

Connection, curiosity, and unpacking those five questions consistently are the main drivers for the podcast. Ultimately the most basic first principle of all is to use writing and speaking as forcing functions for clarity. Think more clearly by writing more clearly to speak more clearly.
Clear and effective communication to impact people and learn alongside them on this journey of making the most out of our life.
