Week 7 Deposits, Home Run Derby, Sleep, & Becoming.
What’s up everyone! Hope you are having an awesome start of your week! Monday, let’s get this bread as Noah Cracknell and my guy Mike Rich would say. Best day of the week and not living for only the weekends.
This week’s daily deposit has a double dip. First, a good ole self-inquiry and insight into my own head. AMAZING experience going to the home run derby with my dad last Monday. Incredible and priceless experience with him and seeing the crowd support Julio hitting 41 home runs in a 4-minute round. INSANE!
I noticed that frustration and disappointment around my own training blipped on the radar towards the end of this week. Those emotions come out a lot more when I am slacking on sleep. I was good with one day but added a few more in there across the week after the home run derby. When I consistently sleep under 7 hours both of those emotions come out for not only lacking on solid training sessions but other areas of my life. I have a list that I reflect on when I am frustrated or disappointed in myself. The majority of the questions are reflecting on if I have done things that GIVE me energy. For example, going for a walk, working out, or getting solid sleep. This week was not my best management of my energy, my lifestyle design, and as expected within my training. 226 minutes of fitness and shortening long runs aren’t going to cut it. It is a bounce-back week. Let’s keep depositing.
On another note, will dive into this more but had to share this. When asking yourself the question “Who am I becoming?” your first thought is first I need to figure out who I am before I start focusing on this person I could become. One of my favorite former student-athletes hit me up today asking a question that snapped me into some clarity on this process or steps when thinking through it all.
I love those moments when someone asks you a question and in explaining it you better understand it yourself.
Who am I becoming?
Things we are in control of…
who we are becoming.
the actions we take and the choices we make.
Knowing you are in control of those two things you then ask yourself
who is it that you wish to become?
what attributes and qualities do you want to possess?
EXAMPLE
Become the type of person who values their health. (Consistently workouts out & eats healthy could be two examples)
Become the type of person who is great at tough conversations (Keep track of evidence of you being bold)
Life is asking us the question and our actions are the answer.
None of us our static, we are always changing. We are always “on our way” to becoming something. Are you moving towards a more authentic version of yourself or farther away from it?
Who am I is focused on what is out of our control and the past. Becoming is focused on the now (actions) and how that influences our future.
This topic could be a singular newsletter topic, but it was on my mind today, so it was too good not to share. Will dive into this concept more if people are interested. Shoot me an email with your (NAME // WHERE YOU ARE EMAILING FROM // "Becoming”) if interested in learning more about this!
Week 7 Daily Deposits (July 17th, 2023)
Monday
I surprised my dad with tickets to the MLB All-Star Game Home Run Derby. Life is the sum of our experiences and I could not pass this one up. Making memories with my pops! The day was elite. Finished work, drove 3 hours to Seattle, soaked it all in, hung out with my dad, and then mobbed back to Portland. Made it back before midnight.
No training this day. Give yourself some grace dude. Only 2nd day of 2023 so far that I have done zero dedicated daily deposits.
