What's Your Process To Stay Accountable?
Is your Madden NFL rating for accountability a 99?
What’s up, everyone? Hope you’re having a great week! It is that time of year, Thanksgiving, NCAA Soccer tournament time, National Championship for Cross Country, the thick of Fantasy Football season when it matters most, anddddd about that time to start reflecting on your personal growth this year.
Did 2024 go how you wanted it? Where did you grow and make progress?
What are the highlights? What are you avoiding? Where did you need more accountability? Did you do what you said you were going to do?
What went better than you ever could have imagined?
Great question from a friend… Alright, get this, my buddy Joe Podeslenko, host of The Post Game Podcast, hit me up asking about do I stay accountable. This question hyped me up because it made me pause and deliver a good answer.

So… progress is more about doing things consistently, improving on it, and being accountable. BEING. It is an attribute, quality, and skill. Doing what you said you are going to do. Imagine if they had that rating in MLB The Show or Madden. The dude is an 85 overall with a 99 in accountability vs. a 1 out of 100.
What is your process for building and cultivating accountability in your life?
Building accountability… naturally, I have created different groups of accountability for different areas. The main driver is internal. Becoming who I want to be and doing what I said I would do. While at the same time using external things as guard rails on a windy mountainside road.
Internal accountability is the real reason.
External accountability helps fuel the internal, it keeps you in check, but it can’t be the only reason. (Example: I am not going to no show my friend at jiu-jitsu if I tell him I am going.)
Why not? Similar to proving people wrong or proving yourself right. Proving people wrong is an INCREDIBLE SPARK for getting started, but the sustainable burn is proving yourself right for decades. Take action and stay accountable for yourself. The community, team, close friends, etc, can help keep you on track and the right path.
OVERVIEW RIGHT NOW
Cathedral Coffee is where I go to write, work on the podcast, and be productive on personal projects. People who work in the coffee shop say, “What’s up what are you working on or Wow, I haven’t seen you in a while.”
WRITING: Mike Rich, best friend and writer of the Ghost Business Newsletter where is the newsletter, brother? Haven’t received an email from you in a while.
PODCAST: Joe Podeslenko - several friends who always check out the podcast keep me accountable because I don’t want to tell them ahhh yeah, I haven’t been doing it
DAILY DEPOSIT: Internal check-in. Did I invest in my health for a minimum of 30 minutes each day? I feel better when I lift, run, sauna, or do jiu-jitsu
JIU JITSU: Max Munson is the Athletic Trainer for WBB and a consistent jiu-jitsu training partner. Keeps me accountable to go when I don’t “feel” like it
RUNNING: Strava. Not only for the kudos but more for tracking my progress - Deep down core, I want to be fit and run. Looking back, did I do it? (Also posting publicly).
Is there some guilt in there? Potentially. Is it healthy? I think, in the end, it helps get the job done. It helps drive me to do things that maybe I don’t “feel” like doing in the moment, but in the future, I will be glad I did it. Not wondering “what if” for the rest of my life.
What would the person I want to become do right now? DO THAT!
Use the tribe around you to help drive you toward the person you want to become.
Would I sauna every Wednesday night if it was only up to me? Probably not.
Do I sauna every Wednesday night because I plan to always meet up with my four buddies? Yes. I rarely miss those nights because we are all in it together.

Idea coming soon is people you’ve never even met can help keep you on track! Shout out George Heaton & Represent 247.
This is to be continued but wanted to get my first thoughts out there after Joe asked me this great question. In some ways I need to dial this in to be more clear for others, applicable for others to apply to their life, and create real change.
Sharing what I do is step 1 and excited to expand on this topic more once I get feedback from the student-athletes I work with at the University of Portland. The future is bright.
If you loved this or have any feedback make sure you email me (RIGHT NOW) your name, thoughts, and where you are writing from! All love. Keep stacking those daily deposits and making every day the best day of the year until tomorrow.
